Telluride Ski Resort sits in the San Juan Mountains of south-west Colorado, between the historic mining town of Telluride and Mountain Village, about 6.5 hours' drive from Denver. It opened on 22 December 1972 and has been owned since 2004 by Chuck Horning; it is independent, not part of Vail Resorts or Alterra.
The resort covers about 2,000 skiable acres with 18 lifts. Lift-served vertical is about 3,850 feet, rising to about 4,400 feet with the hike-to terrain, which tops out at 13,150 feet below Palmyra Peak. Experts hike to Palmyra and the Gold Hill chutes; the Galloping Goose is a beginner run 4.6 miles long. On the mountain, Allred's, at the gondola's St. Sophia station, is the formal restaurant with views over the town, and Alpino Vino, at 11,966 feet on the See Forever run, is an on-mountain wine bar.
The free gondola between Telluride and Mountain Village, opened in 1996, carries skiers and residents over the ridge and runs late into the evening. Telluride town is a National Historic Landmark District.
Telluride is an Epic Pass partner: the Epic Pass includes seven days, then 50% off lift tickets. The 2026/27 season is scheduled to run from 26 November 2026 to 4 April 2027. In December 2025 a ski patrol strike shut the resort over the Christmas holidays, from 27 December until a new contract was agreed in early January 2026.
Telluride Regional Airport is about 5 miles from town, with limited flights; most visitors fly into Montrose, about 65 miles away, and take a shuttle.
