Steamboat Resort

Steamboat Resort is a ski area on Mount Werner, about 3 miles south-east of downtown Steamboat Springs in Routt County. It opened in January 1963 as Storm Mountain and has been run by Alterra Mountain Company since 2017. The town calls itself "Ski Town USA", and claims to have produced more Winter Olympians than any other town in the United States. The resort has trademarked the name "Champagne Powder" for its light, dry snow.

Steamboat is known for skiing in its aspen groves. It covers about 3,740 skiable acres after the 2023 Mahogany Ridge expansion, with about 3,670 feet of vertical up to the summit at 10,568 feet. The Wild Blue Gondola, which opened in two stages in 2022 and 2023, runs from the base to the top of Sunshine Peak and is the longest and fastest ten-person gondola in North America.

Steamboat is on the Ikon Pass, with unlimited days. For a Saturday at the end of December 2026, a day ticket cost $344 at the window and $258 online, so buying ahead saves a lot. The 2026/27 season is scheduled to open on 21 November 2026 and usually ends in mid-April.

Parking changes for 2026/27. At the Meadows lot, cars with fewer than three people pay $15 before 1 pm on weekends and holidays, and the lot is free at other times. The Knoll lots are paid, carpools of three or more park free in Upper Knoll with a reservation, and the Northside lot is closed. Free Steamboat Springs Transit buses run between downtown and the base, which is often easier.

Yampa Valley Regional Airport at Hayden is about 25 miles west, with seasonal flights from many US cities. From Denver it is about 155 miles by road.
