Cheyenne Mountain Zoo
Cheyenne Mountain Zoo
Situated on the side of Cheyenne Mountain, the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo offers a unique wildlife experience at an elevation of 6,714 feet. As one of the few zoos in the United States located at such high altitude, it provides a distinct setting for observing animals in a naturalistic environment. The zoo is open daily, operating from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with specific adjusted hours on select dates, such as opening at 9:30 a.m. on certain Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Visitors can engage with the exhibits through various interactive experiences, including daily animal demonstrations and the popular giraffe feeding. The zoo features a wide variety of species, including lions, tigers, rhinos, and penguins, allowing guests to observe animals up close. A notable feature is the Mountaineer Sky Ride, which offers a scenic view of the zoo and the surrounding landscape, operating daily from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., weather permitting.
Access to the zoo requires advance purchase of timed entry tickets, which must be secured online prior to arrival. Upon arrival, guests have a 30-minute window to enter, so planning is essential to ensure a smooth start to the visit. The zoo is located just west of The Broadmoer hotel, accessible via a short drive from Interstate 25. While the main attractions are accessible, visitors should note that certain amenities, such as the carousel, may be closed for maintenance. This setting provides a comprehensive and immersive experience for families and wildlife enthusiasts alike.
