Box Canyon Falls Park offers a striking natural experience in Ouray, Colorado, centered around a dramatic 285-foot waterfall. The park is designed for accessibility, featuring a well-maintained perimeter trail that allows visitors to walk approximately 500 feet to the base of the falls. This path leads to a high bridge, providing a safe and clear vantage point to view the water as it plunges through a narrow, steep-walled gorge. The surrounding geology is notable, with the creek having carved its path through durable quartzite rock over thousands of years, creating a rugged and scenic landscape.
Visitors are welcome to explore the area at their own pace, with no advance reservations required for entry. The on-site visitor center is open during the main season, typically from May through Labor Day, operating daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. During the warmer months, the center may remain open later, extending hours until 8:00 p.m. in late May and early June. Admission fees are modest, with tickets priced at $8 for general admission, $7 for seniors aged 63 and older, and $6 for children aged 4 to 17. Children under four enter free of charge. Please note that pets are not permitted within the park boundaries to ensure the safety of both wildlife and visitors. The site is easily accessible via County Road 36, making it a convenient stop for travelers exploring the region.
